About The Sequel SSB's more famous counterpart, Melee, really gained a lot of playtime, being released for the newest system of the time, which was Gamecube. The expanded character list, along with the extended list of battle stages, drew many more people into the game. Unlockables, such as the secret characters and past stages, along with the One-Player Classic and Adventure modes, gave the game some mystery and intrigue, while the familiar Training mode and Break the Targets/Race to the Finish timed games were welcome remembrances of the former game. Where Melee triumphs, in my opinion, is the VS. battle mode. You can even do tournaments or special melees with unique and sometimes odd conditions (like invisibility or size differences). The versatility is really quite special for a game of this sort, and it makes the game continually fascinating. |
