About The Original Released in 1998 for the N64, Super Smash Brothers was a game that attempted to place characters from all different walks of gaming life into one game, kind of like a crossover fanfiction that got programmed as a game. Surprisingly, it worked, and it became a big hit with gamers everywhere, or so I believe. The game's instant appeal lay in the broad range of characters that were available, as well as the unlockable characters. Basic game modes followed a typical pattern of one-player adventure and vs. battle games, as well as options to battle using stock lives, coins, or time limit. These now are staples of the sequel, but at the time it was kind of new to have different choices in how to battle. |
