My Favorite Characters?
I'm the kind of gamer that picks one character and sticks with him/her. I don't like to use different characters unless I get really bored or just want to try my hand at a different thing.
That being said, I have two Ol' Faithfuls, one for each game. Pikachu was my Gold Standard of choice in SSB, and Princess Peach is my girl when it comes to SSB:M.
Now, I was very disappointed with the original in one way---because there was only one female character in the game. Since I am a big feminist, I like to play as the girls, simply because I enjoy kicking the butts of guys who think girls can't play video games, and I like kicking their butts with the most unlikely characters. Thankfully, most of my friends now don't have that particular prejudice in mind, but for a while there was a general feeling throughout the video-game community that the practice was largely "males-only." Heh, I've always managed to be more into guy-oriented things mentally, which makes me quite different from other young women my age.
Anyhoo, since Samus was a bit too trigger-happy for me, I settled on Pikachu for my character, and was very pleased with his speed and agility on stage. I loved using his Thunder attack in battles, as well as the Zap Jump to confuse my opponents and mess with their heads. Plus, you can't beat his cute little face and his taunt (Pika pika!). And the irony of a little electric mouse beating up warriors three times his size didn't escape me, either---I reveled in it. Pikachu's face-to-face zap and lowdown kick also helped rid me of enemies.
But when Smash Brothers Melee came out, I was super-delighted. Why? Only because my favorite character of all time, Princess Peach, was finally featured! I was like "OH YEAH I'm gonna get this game!!"
Learning to play her was like putting my mannerisms into controller commands. I always found Princess Daisy (Peach's counterpart in a few Nintendo games) to be a bit too tomboyish even for me, LOL, but Peach is the perfect blend of delicate and destructive, of pretty and powerful. That taunt of hers (Sweet!) rocks my socks. LOL!
Using her throws and her admittedly weak A attacks were kind of annoying in the beginning, but if I can manage to throw around my opponents on the stage (who are most likely playing the big macho characters, as is their wont), then I'm doing OK. Personally, my favorite attack is the Peach Bomber (Ctrl stick left/right and B), which I personally call the Butt Blaster. I also like the across throw she has (Grab - Ctrl stick in opposite direction), because it uses a kind of coquettish bump to the side. Again, it's both feminine and powerful. Her Aerial attacks also rule, most especially the Forward + A attack, which smacks an enemy with her crown. I find it the most amusing abuse of her royal power, lol.
